Gordon Brittas is the manager of the Whitbury-Newtown Leisure Centre. Despite his good intentions, everything seems to go wrong when he's around, despite the best efforts of the center staff and his long-suffering wife Helen.

Very funny. Really enjoyed seeing this again. Gordon Brittas is a walking disaster. If you seen him coming towards you, you'd run. Kudos to Mrs. Brittas who was constantly on the edge of a nervous breakdown as she dealt with Gordon's myopically inept attempts to be an urban saviour. He's a good egg, and means well, and thinks he is as wise as Yoda, but he has this anti-midas effect, where everything he touches doesn't turn to gold, but falls apart, and usually very dramatically in a huge anti-climax of multiple mini-disasters all converging into one massive epic disaster, which is hilarious.
Kinda like Frank Spencer in "Some mothers do 'ave 'em", but this time someone was stupid enough to put him in charge of a leisure centre =)
