I'm kinda ashamed to say I don't really like Westerns... & I don't really remember much of this movie, as I only saw it once, years ago... but I do remember absolutely loving it, easily my favourite Western. Due for a rewatch & hopefully slightly better review this year!

- Vincent ReggianniniJune 3, 2025This is an interesting Western, in a world flooded with technology and special effects this movie is a throw-back to when a good script, good writing and charismatic stars held your attention. Christian Bale is admirable as a sad sack Civil War hero”left-over” who has been trampled by life, and back luck. Given a chance to prove his worth to himself and his rebellious son Bale’s character promises to take a newly arrested Russel Crowe to a train that will carry him to jail. Crowe is dynamic, threatening and spell-binding as the main “black hat”. His performance carries the film and cements this as one of the best Westerns in the last 15 years.
