Bad Boys is a very grounded & tragic story, which lands Mick O'Brien in prison and the whole outlook & challenges, that our protagonist has to face and overcome in prison life. Its just a literal life & death situation that Mick O'Brien is thrown in; that keeps you absolutely gripped & glued all the way to its epic showdown & conclusion. The whole movie just feels like a ticking time bomb and that's what I really loved about it. You can see this early on, that Sean Penn was going to be a major star and a future oscar winner; its all right here in a powerhouse performance from him. I can't believe the date I'm writing this review on it; was the first time I ever watched it on YouTube. A truly truly brilliant film, from start to finish. My Personal Ratings/Scores for Bad Boys 1983 is a 10/10 & ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I stumbled onto it late one night thinking it was the Will Smith movie, but instead found a raw, unsettling drama starring a young Sean Penn. It introduced me to a subgenre I didn’t even know existed—juvenile detention films—and I was shocked by the level of violence, depravity, and neglect these teenagers endured. We all know adult prisons can be brutal, but the way Bad Boys portrays juvenile justice feels even more disturbing. Watching teenagers spiral into hate, revenge, and survival instincts is genuinely frightening. Penn delivers an incredible early performance, capturing both the vulnerability and rage of a young offender pushed too far. The film doesn’t sugarcoat anything; it shows how broken systems and broken kids collide with devastating consequences. After watching it, I couldn’t help thinking that Bad Boys should be required viewing in scared-straight programs. It’s harsh, gripping, and unforgettable.
