In this send-up of today's most popular horror movies, a familiar-looking group of teenagers find themselves being stalked by a more-than-vaguely recognizable masked killer. As the victims begin to pile up and the laughs pile on, none of your favorite scary movies escape the razor-sharp satire of this outrageously funny parody.

I was 14-15 when this came out and I thought it was a great movie. Seen it again today and I remembered almost all the funny lines/gags. I will see this again with my son when he grows up.

The start of a ridiculous franchise. Faris, Electra, Elizabeth and the Wayans make it worthwhile. Probably the third best of the series.

Had it on in the background while I played Balatro. Doofy is an unfortunate character, but it honestly holds up. Perfect parody.

"Shorty, I know you ain't driving without no papers" "I got paper, blunts, bongs....all the ingredients to make a high nigga pie" They don't make them like this any more.

Pure Chaos That Still Lands "Scary Movie" is the kind of comedy that thrives on excess, pushing parody to its limits with a style that is loud, unapologetic, and intentionally ridiculous. More than anything, it feels like a product of its time, yet it still holds a surprising level of charm thanks to its energy and confidence. The performances fully embrace the absurdity, with a cast that commits completely to the tone without hesitation. Characters are exaggerated and often over the top, but that is exactly what gives the film its identity and keeps the humor consistently engaging. Visually, the film keeps things simple and functional, focusing more on timing and delivery than style. It mirrors the look of the movies it parodies just enough to make the jokes land, while the soundtrack supports the chaotic rhythm without becoming a focal point. The writing is built around rapid fire gags and references, many of which still land thanks to their boldness and timing. It does not aim for subtlety, and that works in its favor, creating a flow that rarely slows down and keeps the humor constant. Some jokes inevitably feel dated, and not all of them hit with the same strength today. Still, the film's commitment to its style and its relentless pace help it overcome those weaker moments. In the end, "Scary Movie" remains the strongest and most memorable entry of its series, helped by a strong sense of nostalgia and a comedic approach that still feels effective. It may be rough around the edges, but its impact and rewatch value are hard to deny.

“what's wrong? bobby, she's gone, and she's not coming back!” “it's been over a year now, cindy!” “but ginger was such an important part of the spice girls.“ kinda crazy that i’ve never watched this one all the way through, just what i managed to catch on tv growing up or clips online. i grew up watching scary movie 2 and 3 more often, so bits like the dawson’s creek reference gagged me. it’s got some all timer bits of the series, like the stairway chase scene. i love me some fun trash. also, now having watched the entirety of baywatch, i have an even deeper appreciation for the cold open.

The fact that this movie is still culturally relevant 26 years later really does show the impact any movie can make on the world

Absolutely ridiculous but damn I miss this sort of comedy
  • James MullinMarch 8, 2026
Some of the jokes were dry; however, a good movie overall
  • ZokkiieAugust 10, 2025
Just dumb in the best way possible—nonstop jokes, ridiculous scenes, and a perfect send-up of ’90s horror flicks. Some gags are dated, but most still hit, and it’s easily one of the best parody comedies out there.
